Searching for an Expert

When you land on the Expert Locator tool, you will see a search bar at the top of the page. By default, you will be able to search experts by ‘Area of Expertise.’ To change this, click on the ‘Area of Expertise’ dropdown beside the search bar to change the parameters you use to find experts. For all search options, you can first select the parameter, and then start typing into the search field to see search suggestions based on your input.

Search Options

  1. Area of Expertise: This filter selection will let you select the area of expertise that the expert you are looking for has been related to. There are several layers of expertise, so selecting one can allow you to drill down and be even more specific. For example: If you were looking for an expert in ‘Damages/Financial,’ you could search by that area. If within that area you wanted an expert who specialized in ‘Forensic Analysis,’ you can narrow your list further by selecting that layer.

The ‘Browse by Area of Expertise’ button will open a pop-up where you can view the layers of expertise in a branch-like hierarchy. This option may be preferable to those who might not know the specific area they are looking for, but would rather discover it in a more organic way.

  6. Respondent State: This allows you to filter experts who are related to cases that have a specific respondent State.
  7. Retained By: This allows you to filter experts who have been retained by a specific party. Either the claimant, respondent or the tribunal/court/committee.

View all Experts

You can also select the option to ‘View all Experts’ to see a complete list of all experts in ISLG. This list can be filtered and refined by search parameters as well.

Refining Your Search

Once you have made a search, or are viewing the list of experts, the list can be refined further by using the ‘Filter Results’ button. When you click, it will open a pop-up of filter categories that you can use to narrow the list down. Depending on how you have navigated to the experts list, some filters may be greyed out as they were already used for the primary search. For example, if you searched using the ‘Area of Expertise’ parameter and see a list of all experts related to that area, when you click to ‘Filter Results’ you will not be able to use the ‘Area of Expertise’ filter as that was the one used to make your search.

Once you have selected your desired filters, you can click ‘Filter search’ to see the list get filtered by your selected parameters.

Saving Your Search Results

From the search results page, you can save your search to your Research Notepad by selecting ‘Add this Result to Research Notepad’. This will allow you to access this list whenever you need, without having to enter the search and filters again.

Expert Details

Once you find the expert you are searching for, you can simply click the name to be taken to a page that contains an overview of the expert’s background, contact information, related organizations as well as the disputes where the expert appeared.

The disputes table can be filtered by selecting ‘Filter Table’. This will allow you to narrow down the disputes that appear based on the filter parameters. Once you have selected your filters, click ‘Filter Search’ to view a refined table that contains disputes that match your filter criteria.
