Jurisprudence Citator: Following Dispute Document References

You can simply and effectively stay up to date with how specific decisions have been treated by subsequent investment treaty tribunals, by following the document of interest within the Jurisprudence Citator tool. Following a document will allow you to receive in-app notifications and opt-in to email notifications for when investment treaty decisions and awards have been referred to by subsequent tribunals. 

There are two types of jurisprudence citator references: general references (a reference to the decision or award as a whole or “generally”) and specific references (a reference to a specific passage or paragraph of the decision or award).

Following a dispute document from the jurisprudence citator tool

From within the Jurisprudence Citator Tool you can follow a decision or award to get notified of newly published analysis of an Investment treaty decision or award containing a reference to the dispute document. 

When following a dispute document in this way, you will receive notifications for general references to the decision or ward AND specific references to the decision or award. 

To follow a dispute document:

  • From the Jurisprudence Citator page, find the dispute document you would like to follow
  • Open the Actions menu at the top right of the dispute document card

The dispute document has now been added to your followed topics. 

Following a dispute document specific reference from the jurisprudence citator tool

From within the Jurisprudence Citator Tool you can follow a specific paragraph, footnote or page within a decision or award to get notified of newly published analysis of an investment treaty decision or award containing a reference to the same portion of the text.

To follow a dispute document specific reference:

  • From the Jurisprudence Citator page, find the dispute document you would like to follow
  • Select See All under the Specific References label to expand the accordion of all specific references
  • Select the paragraph/footnote/page label for the portion of interest to expand a list of all references to that passage
  • Open the Actions menu within the references toolbar

  • The selected paragraph/footnote/page of the dispute document has now been added to your followed topics.
